Simon’s Town – Accommodation – Things to do

Cape Town Cycle Race, Simon’s Town

*** Cape Town Cycle Race, Simon’s Town

Cape Town Cycle Race took place right on our doorstep this morning.

We toasted the cyclists with Bucks Fizz on our balcony, before strolling down to Main Road to cheer them on, up close and personal.

Such an awesome spectacle and wonderful atmosphere!

Penguins at Boulders Beach, Simon’s Town

*** Boulders Beach, Simon’s Town

One of our guests went to Boulders Beach yesterday and shot this video of the penguins.

How lucky are we to live here?

A veritable Whale Fest!

Whale Fest on our doorstep!

There was a veritable Whale Fest this morning directly in front of The Lookout;

Colin didn’t know where to point his camera! Some were a little further out, but one

ventured so close to the shoreline.

And then this afternoon we had a jumper in the middle of the bay.

We would love to share these amazing views with you  (and “our” whales)why not stay with us?

Kite Surfers

These two Kite Surfers entertained us with their amazing skills on Saturday morning.

There is always something going on in the bay.

Big Betsy – Simon’s Town

What a privilege to witness the 59th ceremonial firing of Big Betsy, to mark Youth Day, at Middle North Battery in Simon’s Town.
Big Betsy is the world’s largest operational cannon (9 inch Rifled Muzzle Loading Gun), which was painstakingly restored in 1984, having last been fired in 1903.
Since 2011 she has been fired at 12 noon on every South African public holiday.

Whale Sightings – Simon’s Town

We’ve been seeing whales in the bay since the beginning of May. These 2 Orcas swam past The Lookout early on 9 May and since then we have had whale sightings at least every second day and the season hasn’t even started yet! Hopefully this is a sign that there will be plenty of whales to view this year.

Navy’s cannon firing exercises – Simon’s Town

On Tuesday as we were passing Lower North Battery, just on the outskirts of Simon’s Town, one of the Navy’s regular firing exercises was underway.

The sound quality on the video doesn’t do it justice; the noise was absolutely deafening!

We could still hear the guns on our return to The Lookout, nearly 5 km away on the other side of Simon’s Town.

A beautiful Autumn morning in Simon’s Town

It is such a beautiful morning in Simon’s Town that Colin and I couldn’t resist a short stroll along the seafront to Fisherman’s Beach, which is just minutes away from The Lookout.

Sunny Simon’s Town

*** Views from the pool at Simon’s Town Guesthouse, The Lookout.

Looks so inviting! Pool! Beach! Lazy Days!

This is really what holidays should be about, don’t you think? Perfect weather, views that go on forever – we can see right across False Bay to the mountains!

Now the difficult decision, to go down to Boulder’s beach and visit the penguins? Or stay in and laze here around the lovely pool area with a good book?
